My career in marine conservation started over six years ago, after seeing the then-current and projected status of marine ecosystems. While working directly with artisanal fisherfolk in Indonesia, inspiring the next environmental stewards in the United Arab Emirates and establishing MPAs in the Philippines, one key message became clear: the situation has not improved and has only worsened despite the calls for immediate action.
In developing sustainable solutions for dependent communities to thrive in harmonious ecosystems, I am determined to improve well-being and safeguard livelihoods. I am the Senior Project Manager for Blue Pangolin Consulting, delivering various regional and international projects aiming at the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources.
I also support the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Secretariat, a global partnership to preserve the world’s coral reefs and associated ecosystems. I am an active member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, and of four UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration task forces.
Our generation must become the generation of action. I will mobilise youth and advocate for strong international commitments to ambitious targets, raising awareness on the importance of MPAs to ensure the delivery of their many ecological and societal benefits.
