The World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) is the world’s premier network of protected and conserved areas expertise. The Commission has over 2500 members spanning 140 countries who provide strategic advice to policymakers and work to strengthen capacity and investment for protected areas establishment and management. WCPA´s mission is to develop and provide scientific and technical advice and policy that promotes a representative, effectively managed and equitably governed global system of marine and terrestrial protected areas, including especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem service

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) brings together governments, conservation, and a diverse range of non-governmental organizations in a pan-continental partnership. This partnership has over 1000 members and is spread across some 160 countries.

By this union, since 1948 IUCN has influenced, encouraged and assisted societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature, and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.
