Melissa White

Melissa White is a member of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation and currently resides on the Traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg, working as a Junior Policy Analyst for the Assembly of First Nations National Office. She completed her Bachelor of Geography with a focus on environmental climate change processes and obtained her certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Nipissing University in 2016. Working in the Fisheries Sector, Melissa leads ongoing work on the Indigenous Knowledge file which aims to respect, honour, and prioritize the complex Indigenous knowledge policies and protocols that First Nations have put in place. She has spearheaded regional and national engagement sessions on Indigenous Knowledge provisions in the Fisheries Act and believes Indigenous knowledge systems are key to protecting and preserving inland and coastal marine environments.
