Ruth, a passionate young South African woman, aims to use her passion and understanding of law and communications to make a positive contribution to ocean protection. Her love for the ocean stems from the fact that her life depends on it and she learns every single day why human beings cannot live without it. She had the privilege of previously holding a full-time position of Strategic Communications Manager at WILDOCEANS (a program of the WILDTRUST), situated in South Africa. She is also part of the ever-growing “Youth for MPAs”, a youth movement of over 300 members on a mission to save South Africa’s ocean. She firmly believes that lack of marine protection anywhere is lack of marine protection everywhere. As an IMPAC5 Young Professional Committee member she would like to drive policy change for stronger marine protection locally, regionally and globally.
